I don’t think its about averaging good times with bad. Instead it is a combination of our psychological “immune system” retroactively cooking the books for us. It synthesizes happiness in irreversible situations. It recreates memories of the past with the emotions of the present. The best description I’ve ever read about this is the book “stumbling on happiness” – quite possibly the most thought provoking book I’ve ever read. I’d recommend it to anyone interested in this topic.
And, BTW, it isn’t just women who do this – it’s all of us. However, women are more prone to recreate memories based on how they “should have felt”, based on societal values, since they are usually more susceptible to those values.

The male Potential Mate Assessment Computer PMAC is a very simple device compared to it’s female equivalent. It seems to be able to generate a clear answer with only seven pieces of data.

Tagging. Interesting thoughts here. I think most women cannot relate to our conversation because they do not experience attraction like we do. I can literally make hundreds of “fuck/dont fuck” decisions in seconds with no interest in character. Sorta have to be able to do that.

This is true if by “Mate” one means “person to have sex with.” OTOH, if by “Mate” one means “person to live with for a long time who I will work to support and in some cases will risk my life for,” which is what an LTR meant over much of history and prehistory, then I think the selection algorithm gets a lot more complicated.
